What to Expect After Laser Hair Removal
Hair removal is a fact of life for most people. The process can be tedious and expensive, whether you remove facial hair, body hair, or both. You can free yourself from this unpleasant task with laser hair removal. This treatment stops hair regrowth to end your battle with unwanted hair.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Most of us have hair somewhere we prefer to remove. The most common areas to address include the face, legs, bikini line, underarms, chest, and back. Laser hair removal stops hair growth by treating the follicles where new hairs grow. It stops these follicles from growing new hairs, resulting in smooth, hair-free skin with lasting results.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Your Alamo Ranch Laser Aesthetics team uses the Cutera Xeo® laser for hair removal. This laser works by targeting pigments inside the hair follicles. Each growing hair root contains melanin, the pigment that gives hair and skin its color. The melanin absorbs the laser energy, creating heat that damages the follicle. The treated hair will fall out and will not be replaced.
What to Expect After Laser Hair Removal
Many people notice that their skin looks slightly red and swollen after treatment. This effect can last a few hours to a few days. You can return to your usual activities immediately. Your treated skin may be sensitive for a day or two, so avoid harsh scrubs or peels. Your skin needs sun protection between treatments and while your skin heals.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?
Your hair follicles go through cycles of growth and rest. Only 10% to 25% of follicles are actively growing hair when you come in for treatment. The resting follicles will not be affected. When you return for your next session, more of these hairs will be active. Most people need two to six treatments to achieve their desired results. The number of treatments depends on the area of the body, the type of hair, and your hair’s natural cycles.
Once you have achieved your smooth skin, you can expect it to be long-lasting. Some people notice occasional stray hairs that appear after a few months or years. A maintenance treatment every year or two can keep stray hairs in their place. We will work with you to develop a schedule that keeps you hair-free.
Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
The Cutera Xeo® can treat most skin and hair tones safely and effectively. You will see the best results if you have lighter skin and darker hair. However, darker skin tones and lighter hair colors can be treated successfully. People with very pale blond or gray hair may not achieve their desired results since their hair does not have enough melanin.
