How Long Does Botox® Last?

A lifetime of smiling, frowning, laughing, and crying leaves lasting impressions. Wrinkles and lines caused by emoting may make you look older than you are. At Alamo Ranch Laser Aesthetics, Botox® is one of the most popular treatments to restore your youth with natural results.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment for forehead lines, crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and other facial wrinkles. Using a small dose of botulinum toxin, Botox® blocks the signals to problematic muscles that cause wrinkling. While “toxin” may sound dangerous, Botox® has been safely used for over 30 years as a reliable facial rejuvenation treatment.

How Long Does the Effects of Botox® Last?

Your first treatment of Botox® should last between 3 and 4 months. The longevity depends on the person. While some people’s effects may last up to six months, others’ results only last two months. To maintain your results, you will need maintenance treatments. Repeat injections may last longer.

What Can Affect the Longevity of Botox®?

The longevity of Botox® can be affected by several factors such as age, skin elasticity, and the depth of the wrinkles. If you are treating deep lines in your face, the lines may not completely disappear but fade. In these cases, the effects may not last as long.

To prevent new wrinkles while using Botox®, it is crucial to keep your skin’s health in mind. Wearing sunscreen daily and avoiding direct sun exposure mid-day can help prevent wrinkling. Stay hydrated and moisturize your skin to keep it healthy, along with gentle cleansers to remove debris.

Botox® Results

Results may start to appear after 24 to 48 hours, but final results may take up to 30 days. After repeat treatments, your results may last longer.

You may notice smoother skin in treated areas and a reduction in wrinkles from smiling or frowning. Botox® treatments at Alamo Ranch Laser Aesthetics result in natural, younger-looking facial features—no risk of a surprised or frozen look.

Botox® cannot treat wrinkles caused by sun exposure or environmental damage. If you are suffering from wrinkles or lines caused by these factors, Alamo Ranch Laser Aesthetics also offers a variety of treatments for all types of wrinkles. Feel free to discuss your options with Dr. Sanchez during your in-person consultation.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Anyone wanting to reduce signs of aging, such as horizontal lines on the forehead, glabellar lines between the eyebrows, or crow’s feet around the eyes, is a good candidate for Botox®. Depending on your goals and the severity of aging, you may be given different dosages of Botox®.

If you are pregnant, currently breastfeeding, or have a neuromuscular disease, you may not be a good candidate for Botox®. Only those 18 years of age or older may receive Botox® injections.
