How Long Does it Take for Botox® to Work?

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® is the brand name for the toxin from Clostridium botulinum. To reduce lines and wrinkles, Botox® blocks nerve signals from reaching problematic muscles that make forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. 

These muscles pull on your skin, which creates lines and wrinkles. By controlling the dosage and targeting specific muscles, Botox® can reduce signs of aging from dynamic wrinkles and lines. Since it targets the muscles, wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity are unaffected by Botox®. 

How Long Does Botox® Take to Work?

Botox® begins to work within 48 hours of your treatment, but final results take up to 30 days. Most are satisfied with their results between one and two weeks after treatment. 

While Botox® begins blocking the nerve signals, we recommend avoiding alcohol and stop taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medication. These can hinder your results. Furthermore, please avoid rubbing the injection site for 24 hours to prevent the Botox® from spreading to another area of your face. 

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® typically lasts 3-4 months, depending on the person. Everyone reacts differently to Botox®–some last up to six months while others only two. During this time, your nerves slowly begin signaling to the problematic muscles again to create lines and wrinkles.

Continuous Botox® treatment can lengthen the longevity of your Botox® results. Similar to working out, if your muscles are left unused, they naturally weaken. Ongoing treatments stop muscle contractions, which weaken the muscles, causing longer-lasting results. 

How Much Does Botox® Cost?

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

If you have lines and wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, you may be a good candidate for Botox® treatments. If you suffer from a neuromuscular disease or wrinkles caused by environmental factors, you may not be a good candidate for Botox®.
