How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

What are Dermal Fillers?

Many people choose dermal fillers as an effective way to restore or add volume to their facial features. Dermal fillers can add fullness and contouring to areas like the cheeks and treat deep lines and wrinkles. Some dermal fillers have been designed for use in the lips to make them plumper and softer-looking. The Juvederm® family of fillers contains different products to perform all these tasks. 

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Juvederm® uses hyaluronic acid, a natural molecule that occurs in the skin and has become a popular skincare ingredient. Hyaluronic acid makes a good dermal filler for several reasons. First, your body recognizes it and will not react to it. In addition, it attracts moisture and binds it in the skin, improving hydration. Unlike most other types of dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® can be easily reversed if the results don’t look like you wanted. 

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

The Juvederm® family of products contains dermal fillers for use in the lips, cheek area, and even nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the mouth. Juvederm® fillers can last anywhere from six to eighteen months or even longer, depending on the formula and the location. Different Juvederm® products have different thicknesses and flexibility. 

For example, Juvederm® fillers for use in the lips must have a very flexible, thin formula that allows it to move naturally with your lips. Since the lips move so much, these fillers tend to last six months to a year. Formulas used for facial contouring have a thicker, sturdier structure so they can maintain facial volume, and they can last at least eighteen months. Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

You can resume your usual activities right after your injections. You may see a small amount of bruising in the injection area, but this should fade within a few days. Your injection specialist may have other recommendations based on what type of dermal filler you receive. You may be told to sleep on your back for a day or two so the filler is not moved from its position. 

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?
